Vivi and the Straw Hats watch in despair as a bomb, on a timer, is about to detonate. Luffy, however, stands up and breaks Crocodile’s poisonous hook, ready to continue their fight. At the same time, Pell, recalling his duty to protect the royal family, grabs the bomb and flies it high into the sky. The bomb explodes, but Alabasta is saved as Pell sacrifices himself to spare the city.

When the Straw Hats arrive at the Baratie, Luffy accidentally damages the restaurant. He is forced to work there for a year to pay off his debt. Inside, sous chef Sanji quickly defeats a Marine named Fullbody who tries to insult him.
Luffy accepts a Davy Back Fight challenge from Foxy, a game where the winner of each round steals a crew member from the losing side. Despite his crew’s protests, Luffy has already committed to the game. For the first round, the Donut Race, the Straw Hats send out Usopp, Robin, and Nami.
